Cross-platform application development with NetBeans IDE

25. Februar 2007 von Ralph Bergmann in Java
Schlagwörter:,

“One would think that the concept of integrating standards, protocol, and best practices should pervade every aspect of an integrated development environment (IDE), but application developers frequently discover critical pieces missing from these so-called comprehensive toolsets.

Some development environments require developers to search out plug-ins and specific features, while other IDEs lack professional support options. And many others leave absent crucial features — making software creation difficult, particularly in the development of cross-platform applications. Perhaps most notably, the lack of support for industry standards often slows development and later creates legions of frustrated end-users once a new application built with less-than-integrated toolsets is made available.

With the release of version 5.5, NetBeans IDE overcomes the shortcomings associated with other development platforms and opens up new possibilities for rapid and efficient cross-platform application development. At its core, the NetBeans IDE is a Java development tool written in pure Java technology, so it runs anywhere that runs Java — which, of course, is just about everywhere.

InfoWorld names NetBeans “Best Java IDE Innovator” in 2007 Technology of the Year awards
NetBeans is an open source product with all the benefits of freely available software scrutinized by a community of developers. This creative commons approach has led to greater usability with each new release and given developers more flexibility in modifying the IDE if they so desire. For most application developers, the netbeans.org development portal is the one-stop location for downloads of the environment, along with special feature packs and information about the IDE.”

Hartmut Kaiser – Product Marketing Manager Software

Hi all,

I would like to draw your attention to the following tutorial:

“How to use Java-Gnome to develop Java based GNOME applications in OpenSolaris”

http://www.guug.de/veranstaltungen/osdevcon2007/abstracts.html#1_1_1

by John Rice (John Rice is a staff engineer in Sun)

which will be held in Berlin, next week, Tuesday, February 27th 2007
10:00-18:00, during the OpenSolaris Developer Conference:
www.osdevcon.org

Sun Germany was given the possibility to sponsor a small number of seats
due to the fact that this tutorial is given by a Sun employee.
So I volunteered to inform the Java/Netbeans/Gnome Community.

The focus of the conference is development of the OpenSolaris Platform
(rather than development of applications on top of the platform), so
Java/Netbeans/Gnome-Applications is a little bit off-topic to this
audience and approved to provide a complementary topic at the edge of
the main topic.

I thought that you would be interested. If you know any
Java/Netbeans(/OpenSolaris) Developer Community members who might be,
please forward this note. Respondents are treated first come, first
served to avoid additional hassle.

Deadline for application has to be tomorrow, Friday, 15.00 CET. After
that, I am going to inform the people who applied about the sponsorings.

Please note that a Laptop is going to be necessary. OpenSolaris
Developer Release already installed is best (goto: , but I was told
there is a plan for providing bootable USB sticks. More on this
tomorrow.

Sorry for the rather short notice,

hope to see you in Berlin, Hartmut Kaiser.

PS: if you are interested in (downloading) Solaris Express Developer
Edition, goto:
http://developers.sun.com/downloads/ then Solaris, then Solaris Express
Developer Edition

Licence to Cache

Licence Agreement
